What is EFT?
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), also known as tapping 👉
EFT is a gentle technique that combines elements of talking therapy whilst tapping on specific acupressure points on the face, upper body and hands.
These points are located along areas traditionally associated with acupuncture meridians. Unlike acupuncture, EFT uses gentle tapping with your fingertips to stimulate rather than needles.
During EFT, we bring our attention to a particular thought, feeling, memory or situation while gently tapping on a sequence of points.
How does EFT work?
Sometimes difficult thoughts, feelings or experiences can feel overwhelming. EFT provides a way to gently bring our attention to these feelings while using tapping as a focus for emotional regulation.
We don’t try to ignore, push away or pretend that difficult feelings aren’t there. Instead, we acknowledge what we’re experiencing and work with it at a pace that feels comfortable until the emotion/feeling/sensation regulates.
EFT can be used to explore a wide range of thoughts, feelings and experiences. Everyone is different, and people have been using tapping to support themselves with things such as:
😟 Stress and ☺️ relaxation – finding ways to feel calmer, release tension and manage everyday pressures.
😬Difficult emotions – working through feelings such as anxiety, sadness, anger, guilt, frustration and overwhelm.
😨 Fears and 🕷️phobias – exploring specific fears, worries and situations that feel challenging.
🫣 Past experiences – gently working through the emotional impact of difficult or upsetting experiences including PTSD.
😀 Confidence and self-esteem – developing a kinder relationship with yourself and feeling more confident.
🥱 Sleep – addressing worries and thoughts that may make it difficult to relax or settle at night.
🤕 Physical discomfort – exploring the emotional side of pain, tension and some physical symptoms.
😶🌫️Habits and 🍫cravings – understanding emotional triggers around food, eating habits and unwanted cravings.
🥰 Relationships – exploring feelings and patterns that may be affecting relationships with others.
🙂Personal growth – recognising self-limiting beliefs, building self-awareness and feeling more positive about what is possible.
🏃Motivation and 🏅performance – supporting focus, creativity, confidence and working towards personal goals.
🧒Emotional wellbeing in children and 🧑🍼families – helping children and parents explore feelings, worries and everyday challenges.
What happens during an EFT session?
Sessions are individual and adapted to suit you.
We’ll begin by talking about what’s happening for you and what you’d like support with. I’ll guide you through the tapping process, using words and phrases that help you focus on the thoughts or feelings you’re experiencing.
You don’t need to know what to say or have any previous experience of EFT. I’ll guide you throughout.
You remain in control of your session and can pause or stop whenever you wish.
At the end of your session you will feel more regulated for what was worked on during that session and we may look booking additional sessions if necessary.
Is EFT suitable for everyone?
EFT is a complementary wellbeing approach. It is not a substitute for medical care, psychological treatment or other professional support.
You don’t have to be experiencing a major difficulty to benefit from exploring EFT. Sometimes it’s simply helpful to have a little space to understand your feelings and work through everyday challenges.
At Simply EFT, sessions are offered in a calm, supportive and non-judgemental space, at a pace that feels right for you.
